Movers and Shakers Yoga

Each of us could use a chance to slow down and unwind from our busy, harried lives. Yoga offers that perfect opportunity with coordinated breath and movement, gentle stretching, and a quiet space for your body and brain to say “ahhhhh”.

Movers and Shakers Yoga is led by Claire Lang, who has been practicing yoga for eight years. While her grounding is in hatha yoga, she pulls elements from multiple practices to give a well-rounded yoga session that anyone is able to participate in. Claire works to find modifications for all levels of flexibility and strength, and using yoga blocks, chairs, or an entirely different pose altogether are encouraged. She wants to know limitations from the beginning so she can give modifications and guide students toward more appropriate postures that won’t cause pain or discomfort. Living with an autoimmune disorder herself, she is very willing to work with whatever anyone brings with them to the mat.

Phrases you will hear Claire use are:

“There is no cheating in yoga… what you need is what you need to do”

“We start where we start.”

“Even if your pose is just intention and not actual, it’s enough.”

“Nothing should hurt. Pain is our bodies telling us to stop.”

Classes are relaxed and there’s a lot of camaraderie. Often a session will start with a catch-up time while the mats are being rolled out.

There is no fee to participate in Movers and Shakers Yoga, but More Month than Money Pantry donations are gladly accepted, as are donations to the church if you are able to do so.

“Yoga is for everyone. And if they just want to come and breathe, do it. If they want to observe, awesome. I just ask they join the group as to make everything comfortable.”

All are welcome to join Claire at Movers and Shakers on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00 pm in Room 1.
