Camp Opportunities

Camp experiences rate highest on the list of experiences that shape a person’s love of God’s creative presence in the world, fashioning a call to serve in the world.  Surveys of clergy list camp experiences as among the most influential factors in their call to ministry.  We are blessed with a variety of settings in which young and old can engage in either a setting in the high Sierras, or in the safe settings of our UCC churches. Camp Tamarack (located north of Shaver Lake) hosts annual junior/junior high, senior high church camps; an annual young adult spiritual retreat, and an all-ages family camp. Through our Northern CA NV Conference, junior high youth gather for a long weekend mid-winter camp in January, and senior high gather for a Feb Camp. Our church is host each winter and summer to our Big Red Camp, replicating camp experiences directed primarily toward special need youth. Additionally, we are host each June to a very popular KIDmunity Music and Arts Camp, aimed at elementary age youth across the city, and co-directed by a couple of music professionals from
our congregation.

Camp Tamarack

Camp Tamarack is a week-long Sierra wilderness camp for junior and senior high youths respectively. This has long been a tradition for youth of our church.

Camp Cazadero

Camp Cazadero (Russian River area camp) will offer an Adult Spiritual Retreat (ages 18+).

Big Red Camp

This is a partnership of First Congregational Church of Fresno, and Autism-Fresno in which we provide space and volunteers (under the supervision of a paid professional special needs educator and associate) to serve children and families during those times when school is not in session. The Big Red Camp is held over the three week Christmas and the one week Spring Break, as well as the four week summer hiatus.

KIDmunity Music/Arts Camp

KIDmunity Music/Arts Camp is a special event program for elementary age children held in early summer. Utilizing the Orff methodologies of music learning, children learn basic music skills now lost due to public school cutbacks and ending of programs. The director, Catherine Cooper, and a big staff of church volunteers, reach out into the immediate community to offer this very popular and successful ministry of the church.
